Category layered navigation filter opened

Let's say I have Category A with children Cat A1, CatA2 etc. When I visit the Category A page I have the layered navigation on the left with a filter menu "Category". This menu shows all children items like Cat A1, Cat A2 etc. This menu is always closed, how can I have it opened?

  Yes, thats a feature request my customer has too and Im searchng around to use a layered navigation extension to solve it :(
