Hide Language/site switcher entirely

we have to have separate store views to keep channel sales separate, but these store views show up as language options on the frontend. we want these hidden as we handle customer facing storeview changes through Vhosts rather than a siteswitcher.

the ability to hide this block would be very useful, and apparently can be hidden easily by modifying the layout/default.xml.

toggle for this in the backend would be great.
